The rainout last Thursday left Gump without the Carlisle contingent and their Lancaster players went on vacation leaving the team savage. Brent, Dustin, Finch, Deb, Kate, Jason and Mallory played savage against Blue Moon and the Vuvuzelas. BM and V had their own savage contingent as Rhonda, Rachel and Megan were savage on the ladies side while all but one player showed for the men.

Gump started off fast going out to a 2-0 lead. Blue Moon pulled even and began to put up goals with a 8 to 2 run. Gump started the comeback with Finch hucks to Mallory R and Jason. At 12 to 8, Tony Bowers pulled a quarter field thumber goal to the back right corner. Teams swapped goals with Blue Moon winning 15 to 10. So Tot’s can now claim a summer league championship.

Megan P, Steve P, Jason A and Mallory R were the most spirited players of the evening.

Congratulations to Monika K and Derek R for being named Summer Leagues Most Spirited Players. Captains were asked for the final nominees for the Most Spirited Players using the UPA/ USUA definition. Jordan W, Gabe F and Derek R were the final three for the men. Emily B, Monika K and Amy F were the final three among the women.

A special thank you goes out to the captains of this years teams: Charlie H, Dave D, Mark W, Shelley S, Jonathan ‘Finch’, Tony B, Kimberly B and Tyler G. Our league is a little on the competitive side and there was little need to ‘redirect’ players or teams during games.

Also, thanks to Jeff R, Kimberly B, Dave D and Shelley S for putting together the initial teams. CPUC did not use a draft, but weighted players and their abilities against one another to come up with a set of teams for the captain’s review. Wins and losses often were determined by who was there for a team on a particular night. Sometimes a broken toe can change everything.
Lancaster Fall League 2010

We have reserved fields on Sundays from 2:00-4:00, September 19th to November 21st, at Lancaster Country Day School.
Registration starts on 8/20.

Semi's update and Finals

Semi Finals

Blue Light Special played Blue Moon and the Vuvuzelas in one semifinal Tuesday night. BLS was missing Clan Mactavish/Vogt and EJ and Sarah. Steve Johnston showed up for BMV nursing a sore hamstring, hoping to last through the game.

BLS was up 2 in the first half. BM & V pulled within one at the end of the half. BM & V turned up the heat with some solid play by Totaro. A glance across the field found Pat Wright on the ground possibly writhing or maybe rolling into position for a goal scoring hammer grab. Rachel Delevan made a reach behind outstretched D that left everyone impressed but her daughter. BM & V pulled away in the second half to win by two 17 to 15.

It always comes down the last throw when the Chump Waxers take on Gump. And it almost always is on a universe point. Bearproof had a good weekend at Nucci’s cup, Blue Route played well at the Winston Cup and it showed in the play of the game. Both teams had players a step slow from hard play last weekend.

This game again featured a hard fought battle between Jared McGahen and Jake Rainwater over the deep game. With Ducky on the side lines (deep bone bruise is the final diagnosis) the hucks were not as well rehearsed for the Gump. McGahen was able to stop a lot of the deep game with solid positioning, pace and some well timed jumps. Gutter, who may have the fastest set of hands in recent memory, was still able to come down with many snags in the end zone. Jared actually was noted as the most spirited male player on Ice for clean, hard play.

The Ice had a two point lead until late in the game. Game was capped at 16 due to darkness and the total lack of moonlight. As mentioned before, universe point had both teams with the disc in their hands in the end zone. The tip off the fingers in the Ice end zone led to a long series huck D’s before Gump put the game away 16 to 15.

Finals: Blue Moon and the Vuvuzelas versus Gump. THURSDAY Game to 15 starting at 6:30.
White vs Gold on the other field.

What a catch!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CElwYE1nkMc

Underdog Sports Bar and Grill Spirit Awards for Summer League

Each week Underdog Sports Bar and Grill on Paxton Street is donating Most Spirited player awards. Players register individually and the tentative format is an assignment to a team by zip code/locality. Registration will start at 9:00 am and play will start at 10 am. Fee will be 5.00 per person with the proceeds going to the registered charity of the winning teams choice (it has to be a real organization not something like Ross's Underdog Benevolent Fund).

So lets see some folks from Boiling Springs, Carlisle, York, Lancaster, Mechanicsburg (they have enough players in one house for a team), Harrisburg and all the surrounding burbs. The fee will be payable at the fields, so the event is not free as listed at the Registration prompt.

Lancaster Long's Park pickup

Wed at 6 is skills and drills for a half hour then pick-up.
